Bayanaul National Park

Bayanaul National Park is located in Kazakhstan in the south of Pavlodar region, 100 km from the city of Ekibastuz, on the outskirts of the Central Kazakhstani Shallow Forest. It is among the specially protected natural areas of Kazakhstan.

General information

The rich vegetation of the park is represented by four natural zones – forest, forest-steppe, steppe and meadow. In total, there are about 460 species of plants in Bayanaul National Park – 50 of them are relict species, such as Bayanaul pine (growing mainly on rocks, creating an interesting combination of vegetation and stone) and stone currant.

The fauna of Bayanaul National Park consists of 50 species of birds and 40 species of animals, of special value are the Red Book argali, as well as a group of beaver game.

The Bayanaul Mountains are located in the center of the Asian continent and therefore have a continental type climate. The average annual temperature here is 3.2C, the average temperature in January is 13.7C, and in July it is 14.6C.

In this national park is Goose Binding, a unique natural monument. Paleontologists have found here the remains of bones of giraffes, rhinos, hyena-like animals and hipparirions (small tridactyl horses), which lived from 7 to 10 million years ago – apparently, the total number of fossils numbers thousands of species.

There are four picturesque freshwater lakes in Bayanaul National Park – Sabyndykol, Dzhasybay, Toraigyr and Byrzhankol, as well as several smaller lakes.
