Highlights

The Valley of Geysers is a deep canyon of the Geyser River, in the sides of which on the area of about 6 km² there are numerous outcrops of geysers, hot springs, vapors, mud pots, thermal sites, waterfalls and lakes. You could say that this place is always “smoking.”

The discovery of the Valley of Geysers occurred in 1941, and it was done by accident. Tatiana Ustinova and her assistant Anisifor Krupenin investigated the river flowing from the caldera of the Uzon volcano, and suddenly found themselves a few meters away from a sharp jet of boiling water, which was later replaced by a club of steam. A corner of such a dynamic and at the same time surprisingly fragile nature could be formed only far away from civilization and due to natural tectonic processes, therefore the Valley of Geysers in Kamchatka is not easily accessible.

Since 1993, tourists are allowed to come to the territory of the reserve, but only officially and under the supervision of a guide. In times of favorable weather, helicopter and hiking excursions are organized.
