Tunkinskaya Valley

Tunkinskaya Valley is a system of intermountain depressions of tectonic origin in the East Sayan Mountains in Buryatia and Irkutsk Oblast. In this picturesque corner of the Pribaikalskaya Depression at an altitude of 1200-2500 meters above sea level you can see natural and historical and cultural sights. For example, within the Yelovsky Ridge on the right bank of the Irkut River, at the Tuyana site there were found remains of primitive man, Upper Paleolithic tools and household items from 30 to 50 thousand years old. But the main treasures of the Tunka Valley are water springs, waterfalls and mesmerizing mountain nature, thanks to which it is called “Siberian Switzerland”. Active tourists visit these places in summer, going on hiking, horseback riding, automobile and bicycle tours, river rafting, and in winter they come to go skiing.
