Tsar’s Mound

The Tsar’s Mound in Kerch is a monument of architecture and history of the II half of the IV century B.C., which was the tomb of the king of the Spartokid dynasty Perisades I, who ruled the Bosporan Kingdom in 438-109 B.C. The crypt was completely looted in antiquity. The royal mound is a mute witness to the former glory of Panticapaeum, the most titled mound of the eastern part of the Crimean Peninsula and, in addition, one of the few available for inspection. Its perimeter length is 250 meters and its height reaches 17 meters. The crypt consists of a 36-meter long corridor, a burial chamber and a mound. The blocks forming the corridor are laid out in the form of walls with ledges. The dome consists of 12 concentric rings gradually decreasing in diameter, covered by a slab.
