Great Tsaritsyn Palace

Tsaritsyn Palace is the centerpiece of the Tsaritsyno palace and park ensemble. Built by Matvei Kazakov in 1786-1796 on the site of Vasily Bazhenov’s dismantled buildings, the palace became the main building for the failed Moscow Region residence of Catherine II. Today’s splendid appearance of the Tsaritsyn Palace is the merit of restorers who in 2005-2007 transformed the ruins into the building as Bazhenov intended it to be. The external appearance of the estate is a blend of Gothic and Classicism in the style so beloved of imperial Moscow: red walls and white decorative elements reminiscent of the Moscow Kremlin. The palace is surrounded by a well-maintained park, where Muscovites and guests of the capital like to walk.
