Mount Tibidabo

Mount Tibidabo, the highest point of the Spanish city of Barcelona, belongs to the Collserola range. This hill offers a beautiful panorama of the capital of Catalonia, which is enjoyed not only by foreign tourists, but also by Spaniards themselves. The mountain is relatively low – just over 500 meters above sea level, but both it and the sights located at the top can be seen from anywhere in the city.

Highlights

This area is mentioned in the Gospel of Matthew, in the episode where the devil tempts Jesus by promising to give him all earthly beauty. Showing the view from the summit, he says, “To you I give,” which sounds like “tibi dabo” in Latin. This is where today’s name of the mountain comes from. The hill is one of the most revered religious sites in Spain, as the Church of the Sacred Heart was erected on the summit and there was previously a monastery here.

.

Besides the religious shrine, Tibidabo is home to Spain’s oldest luna park, a puppet and science museum, a tall television tower with observation deck, a botanical garden, and a castle of horrors. Tibidabo can be called the center of family recreation, which is visited with pleasure not only by tourists, but also by locals.

Torre de Collserola TV Tower

Tourists can also climb to the observation deck of the local TV tower. Its height is almost 270 meters, and given that the mountain itself rises more than 500 meters above the city, it offers the best views, especially at sunset. You can buy tickets to the observation deck of the TV tower already at the top.
