Temple of the Great Bell
The Temple of the Great Bell is located in the northwestern part of Beijing, on Beisanghuang Road. It got its name, thanks to the unique “Yongle” bell cast during the reign of Zhu Di, the 3rd Emperor of the Ming Dynasty in China. The Great Bell Temple was built in 1733 during the reign of Emperor Yongzhen of the Qing Dynasty. The Great Bell is 6.8 m high, 3.3 m in diameter and weighs 46.5 tons. The bell ringing spreads within a radius of 50 kilometers from the temple, and its volume reaches 120 decibels. People used to come to this Buddhist temple to pray for rain, and now there is a museum.
