Polotsk St. Sophia Cathedral
St. Sophia Cathedral in Polotsk is an architectural monument of the XI-XVIII centuries, the very first stone building on the territory of the Republic of Belarus. The temple was erected in 1044 – 1066 years by order of Polotsk Prince Vseslav the Magician. Masters from Byzantium were invited for the construction. Up to our time the St. Sophia Cathedral of Polotsk has survived in a significantly changed form, it was finally rebuilt in the XVIII century in the style of Vilna Baroque. In this form it has survived until our time.
