Nearby was the Spanish representation to the papal throne. At the foot of the stairs in Piazza España is the fountain “Barcaccia” by Pietro Bernini, father of the great Gian Lorenzo Bernini, representing a half-submerged barque, a reminder of the great flood of the 16th century.

Via dei Condotti not only has the best view of the Spanish Steps; it is also famous for its most expensive stores. Among the world-famous jewelry stores and luxury boutiques is the famous Antico Caffe Greco, where Goethe, Schopenhauer, Stendhal and Wagner drank coffee. In velvet armchairs, with a cup of incredibly expensive cappuccino, you can dream of the greatness of bygone times.
