Solentiname Archipelago

Solentiname Archipelago is located in the southern part of Lake Nicaragua. It is interesting as a habitat for many birds, monkeys, and other exotic animals.

General information

The origin of the islands is volcanic. Solentiname consists of four large islands, each several kilometers across, from west to east – Mancarroncito, Mancarrón, San Fernando, La Venada – and also includes approximately 32 smaller islands.

Ancient petroglyphs – drawings on rocks depicting parrots, monkeys and humans – have been discovered on the islands of the Solentiname Archipelago.

Nicaraguan authorities have designated the Solentiname Islands as a Nicaraguan National Natural Monument.
