History of Creation

The singing fountains were created by American firm WET Design on behalf of Dubai-based Emaar Properties PJSC. According to the plan, they were to become a decoration of the Dubai Mall. The project was not the first large-scale development of the Californian company, it was also engaged in the creation of the famous Bellagio, located in the gambling capital of the world. However, the musical fountain in the UAE overshadowed its American counterpart, surpassing it in scale and luxury.

.

Construction began in mid-2008 and continued until May 2009, when the structure was presented to the public at the grand opening of the shopping center. The project required not only complex communications, but also the creation of an artificial reservoir with a total area of more than ten hectares. All this required significant investments. Thus, the total amount by the most modest calculations amounted to 218 million U.S. dollars.

.

It is noteworthy that Emaar Properties is not going to stop there. A few years ago, the continuation of the work was announced. It is assumed that the height of the jet will be almost doubled, that is, it will reach the figure of 275 meters.

.

The name “The Dubai Fountain” was chosen from hundreds of options proposed at a specially announced tender. This option was favored for its simplicity and brevity.

.
