Sea of Japan is a sea within the Pacific Ocean, separated from it by the Japanese Islands and Sakhalin Island. It washes the coasts of Russia, Korea and Japan, and the DPRK. In Korea, the Sea of Japan is called the “East Sea”. In the south, a branch of the warm Kura-shivo Current enters.

Area 1.062 million km². The greatest depth is 3,742 meters. The northern part of the sea freezes over in winter.
