Savu is an inter-island sea of the Pacific Ocean between the islands of Flores, Sumba and Timor in the Malay Archipelago. It covers an area of 104 thousand km², with an average depth of 1,683 m and the greatest depth of 3,475 m. Water temperature at the surface is from 26 °С in August to 28 °С in February, at the bottom about 3 °С. Salinity is about 34 ‰. In the central part there is the Savu Basin (more than 3000 m). Currents at the surface are mainly westward and in August reach the speed of 50 cm/sec. Bottom sediments: terrigenous mud with admixture of volcanic material. Tides are irregular semi-diurnal, their magnitude up to 2 m.
