Russian North National Park

The Russian North Park was established on March 20, 1992 to preserve the unique natural complexes of the Vologda Lakeland and the rich historical and cultural heritage of the region. The area of the park is 1664 km², of which 116 km² are occupied by forests. The uniqueness of this protected area lies in the fact that on a relatively compact territory in this area of the Russian Plain it was possible to simultaneously collect a variety of plants and trees, as well as to accommodate various mammals, fish and birds, many of which are on the list of endangered species. The most important historical and architectural monuments of the “Russian North” include the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery, the Ferapontov Monastery, and the Nilo-Sorskaya Wasteland.”
