Rennell Island

Rennell is the largest coral island in the world and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The island has an area of 660 km². Rennell is located in the south of the Solomon Islands and belongs to the state of the same name. The main natural object of the island is Lake Tegano, which is a former lagoon of this atoll and is considered the largest inland body of water in the whole of Oceania, covering an area of 150 km². It contains brackish water and many limestone rocky islets. It is home to several endemic species. The rest, the predominant part, of the island is mostly covered by dense forests that form a continuous canopy at an altitude of 20 meters.
