Qatar University
Qatar University is located on the northern outskirts of the capital Doha. The university has more than 16,000 students. Subjects are taught in Arabic (arts, social sciences and general education courses) or English (science, technology and business courses). Qatar University is the only public university in the country. The university has 9 colleges: Arts and Sciences, Business and Economics, Education, Engineering, Law, Shariah and Islamic Studies, Pharmacy, Health and Medical – totaling almost 8,000 students in a 13:1 student-faculty ratio. Qatar University has students from 52 nationalities, 65% of whom are Qatari nationals. About 35% are children of expats. Women make up about 70% of the student body and are in separate classes.
