Phú Quốc Phu Quoc Island
Phu Quoc is the largest of the islands belonging to Vietnam. It is nestled off the southwestern coast of the country, in the Gulf of Thailand in the Indian Ocean. On the west coast of this sparsely populated exotic island, which recently became a resort, is its capital, the small port city of Duong Dong, in the south – a tiny provincial town of An Thoi, several other villages scattered in different corners. The main attraction of the island is the magnificent natural landscape covered with tropical greenery. This ravishing beauty inspired medieval Vietnamese poets who called Phu Quoc “Emerald Island in a setting of sea azure.”

Phu Quoc, where the locals for centuries were engaged exclusively in fishing, spices, fruits and vegetables, today is the center of the resort area, which also included the nearby small islands. This territory has received special privileges concerning environmental protection, protection of investments in infrastructure, special visa regime. A vast part of the island lands (about 70%), including the coastal water area, has been declared protected, and a magnificent national park has been opened here. This unique ecosystem, untouched by civilization, was included by UNESCO experts among the World Biosphere Reserves.

In 2012, a modern international airport was built in the northern suburbs of the administrative center of Duong Dong. Comfortable hotels and entertainment centers for guests are being built all along the coast. Today glossy catalogs of travel agencies offer a choice of more than 600 hotels in the resorts of Fukuoka, some of them can be called luxurious without exaggeration. The island has chic restaurants and authentic cafes, huge amusement parks, safari parks, but the main highlight of Fukuoka is its magnificent tropical beaches, inviting white sand and emerald umbrellas of sprawling palm trees.
