Peter and Paul Cathedral in Kazan

The Peter and Paul Cathedral in Kazan is an Orthodox gem and the most valuable architectural monument of the capital of Tatarstan. The temple was built in 1723-1726 by merchant I. A. Mikhlyaev in memory of Peter the Great’s visit to Kazan in 1722, before the Persian campaign. The Peter and Paul Cathedral became a vivid example of the Naryshkin Baroque. Its visitors were almost all Russian emperors, starting with Catherine II, and many famous people who visited Kazan, regardless of their religion. Thus, descriptions of the Peter and Paul Cathedral are given in the works of A. Humboldt and A. Dumas, A. S. Pushkin was here, F. I. Chaliapin sang in the choir of the cathedral. The church complex, in addition to the cathedral, includes a bell tower and the rectory.
