Perlan

Perlan is a remarkable building with a hemispherical roof on Oskulid Hill in Reykjavík. Although the building is more like a daisy in its architecture, Perlan means “Pearl” in Icelandic. The building also has a quite ordinary role – it is the city’s boiler room. Each petal of Perlan is a hot water tank that is heated by thermal waters.

The first “floor” of the Perlan houses a winter garden, which regularly hosts concerts by popular artists, exhibitions, etc.

There is an observation tower with panoramic telescopes, as well as several stores (a grocery store, a gift store, and a Christmas store), all on the fourth floor of the building. Above the tower is a gorgeous domed restaurant that has a rotating floor. The dome of the restaurant lights up at night. The dome-shaped part of the building makes a full rotation in two hours.

Also in one of the water tanks is the Saga Museum dedicated to the traditions and culture of the Icelanders.
