Pembrokeshire Coast

The Pembrokeshire Coast is a National Park in the United Kingdom, covering almost the entire coast of South West Wales. It covers the area of the islands of Skoner, Skokholm and Grassholm in south Wales, as well as the island of Ramsey at the northern end of St. Bride’s Bay and the island of Coldie further south of Tenby. The strip of coastline stretches for 300 kilometers and can be walked in about two weeks, and is a real test of strength and patience – most hikers choose to walk only a small part of the route at a time.

General information

The harsh landscape of these places are decorated with castles – there are more than 50 of them, and in the town of St. Davids stands the cathedral – the most significant structure in Wales, built at the end of the XII century where before that more than 600 years stood a church. Tourists come here for three reasons: to hike the trails along the coast, to observe nature, and to engage in active sports – surfing and windsurfing, sailing and canoeing, diving and fishing, horseback riding and coasteering – a kind of cliff-climbing in the sea.

Several companies offer cruises to the islands, and colonies of thousands of seabirds, including tupic and cairns, can be seen in the spring and summer. The islands of Skoner and Skokholm are home to the world’s largest petrel colony. You can also see seals, sea turtles, dolphins and, if you are lucky, minke whales.
