Peking Opera

Peking Opera is a 200,000 m² theater located in close proximity to Tiananmen Square and the People’s Congress House in Beijing. The unique building is an ellipsoidal glass and titanium dome rising in the middle of an artificial body of water, across the street from Zhongnanhai Lake. The three main halls of the Peking Opera House can hold at least 6,500 spectators. The architect was Frenchman Paul Andreu; construction lasted from 2001 to 2007. Tourists and locals often refer to the National Center for the Performing Arts simply as “The Egg.”
