Ossuary in Bohemia (Ossuary in Sedlec)
Ossuary in Sedlec is a Gothic church in the northeastern suburb of the Czech city of Kutná Hora. The Catholic church also goes by the name of the Church of All Saints. In its underground rooms or crypt is the largest ossuary in Bohemia, a place where skeletonized remains are kept. However, the church in Sedlec does not just store human bones – the whole church is decorated with them. Skulls and parts of skeletons are used to decorate walls, arches and ceiling vaults, Catholic crosses and chandeliers. It is believed that 40 to 50 thousand bones were used in the church. A visit to the Ossuary in Sedlec makes a strong impression, and excursions to this temple are included in many tours of the Czech Republic.
