Onega embankment in Petrozavodsk

Onega Embankment is the visiting card of Petrozavodsk and the city’s main promenade. It is located right on the shore of Lake Onega. The official opening of the embankment took place in 1994, another 500 meters of bank arrangement in the style of the XIX century was finished in 2003, by the 300th anniversary of Petrozavodsk. And now almost 1.5 kilometers of the bank paved with Karelian granite have become a wonderful place for walks, romantic dates, meetings with friends and photo shoots. On Onega embankment there are many monuments from other countries – the Norwegian gift “Meeting Place”, the French sculpture “Sleeping Beauty”, the German “Tubingen Panel”. Also here rises the monument to Peter I, the founder of the city, which was moved in 1978 from the Round Square of Petrozavodsk. On the embankment can be seen and 7-meter sculpture “Onego”, depicting a young warrior, the Tree of Wishes, a monument to the fallen in the Great Patriotic War and other monuments.
