North Sea

The North Sea (formerly the German Sea) is a sea in northern Europe, part of the Atlantic Ocean, bounded on the east by the coasts of Norway and Denmark, on the west by the coast of the British Isles and on the south by the coasts of Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and France.

Major ports: Hamburg, Esberg, Rotterdam, London.

It is bordered by the Baltic Sea (separated from it by the Skagerrak, Kattegat, Eresund, Great Belt, Little Belt straits), the Norwegian Sea and the Channel.

Rivers such as the Elbe, Rhine, Thames and others flow into the North Sea. The North Sea is connected to the Baltic Sea by the Kiel Canal (one of Europe’s busiest shipping lanes).
