General information

Cape Nepean is one of several parks that make up Mornington Peninsula National Park. It is home to Fort Nepean Fort with defensive fortifications, it is an old military base. The number of tourists here is limited, so visit should be booked in advance. An old lighthouse stands on Cape Shanka, offering magnificent views of the ocean. The most popular activity on the peninsula is swimming with dolphins and seals. A little closer to the mainland at Cape Shanka is Arthur’s Seat, a giant granite cliff that rises 300 meters above Port Phil Lip Bay.

Closer to the coast, the landscape is a fantastic mix of pastures, orchards and over 170 vineyards where red and white wine grapes are grown. There is also the Piersdale Conservation Park, home to rare animals, which offers an unusual night tour.

Relaxation and recreation can be found in the region’s many spas and hot springs. Seven golf courses on the Mornington Peninsula are listed among Australia’s top 50 golf courses.

The Mornington Peninsula hosts many themed food and wine festivals throughout the year. Taste the peninsula’s fresh produce, abundant at the Strawberry Festival in Dromana and the Frankston Marine Festival, both held in January. You can also attend February’s Pinot Noir Harvest Celebration.
