Al-Marjani Mosque
Marjani Mosque is located in Kazan, in the Old Tatar Sloboda, between Kayum Nasiri Street and the shore of Lake Nizhny Kaban. The construction of the mosque lasted from 1766 to 1770. It became the embodiment of the beginning of multi-confessional religious tolerance in Russia, proclaimed by Empress Catherine II at the end of the XVIII century. For more than two centuries, the Marjani Mosque has been the largest and the main cathedral mosque-jami in Kazan and remains the historical center of Tatar-Muslim spirituality in Tatarstan. A valuable artifact from the era of the Kazan Khanate, the gravestone of Muhammad-gali bey, is kept here.
