Highlights
The Marina Tsvetaeva Memorial Museum was opened in 1992, on the centenary of the poetess’ birth. The initiators of the creation were the Soviet Culture Fund, prominent public figures, including academician D. Likhachev. The first exhibition was held at the same time.
.‘ Study. But the chair behind the desk has been preserved real. It’s a “man’s type”: massive, sprawling, with a padded backing. There is also a couch. The guide says that the poetess often spent the night in her study, reading books until the morning. Above the couch hangs a portrait of Marina Ivanovna.
.‘ Children’s roomMezzanine
The mezzanine room in the Tsvetaeva House-Museum is far from being a pantry, but rooms under the roof with low ceilings. Here tourists are greeted by a real trilogy in Art Nouveau style. The eye immediately clings to its legs, which are made not in the style of massive bars, as usual, but in the form of angular triangles. On the table is a three-leafed large mirror.
To the right of the trellis is a large, bright window. There is a lot of light in the room, which makes it seem more spacious, although in fact there is not much space in it.
.
Sergei Efron’s room
This room has the same low ceilings. It is successfully used lighting: the only large window is located in the corner, and the light from it falls directly on the desk of the poetess’s husband. The desk is massive, and one can feel the “feminine style” in it. On the desk is a lamp with a green shade, and above it hangs a small round clock.
In the back of the room there is little light, there is a sofa on thin legs for three people. To the left of it is placed a cabinet of wood, small, but successfully fitted into the very corner. Above the sofa you can see a large stuffed hawk in flight.
.%’ Sergei Efron’s room‘In front of the table is placed another sofa, oak, massive, high-backed. It is covered in leather, and the arm pads are decorated with lions’ heads carved from wood.
.
It is worth noting that this is very expensive furniture, especially for post-revolutionary times. The backrest is decorated with carved bird-man heads. Most likely, this is a reference to Russian mythology, and more specifically, to a creature called Alkonost.
.
Kitchen
Marina Ivanovna’s former kitchen is now practically empty. Exhibitions are often held here, and the walls are decorated with poems by the poetess. At the very end there is a staircase that allows you to pass to the attic.
Exhibition hall
The exhibition hall is crowded, but not because it is small. It’s just that there are many real objects exhibited here, which were owned by the poetess and which “survived” to our days. For example, a desk and a school desk. Such furniture was often found in the 1930s.
.In the middle of the ceiling hangs a massive wrought iron chandelier. Rumor has it that craftsmen from far abroad were invited to restore it.
.
Basement
In the entire Tsvetaeva house-museum, this room seems to be the most futuristic. It is out of the general style, but it is no less significant for admirers of the poetess and her work. On the black matte wall is a line with notches, each year of the poetess’s life is accompanied by a description of significant events.
.
At the very end of the room stands a huge mirror in a massive frame, which belonged to Marina Ivanovna. Nearby lies a large trunk that was the property of Tsvetaeva’s friend, the poet Arseny Tarkovsky. It’s not so much interesting to look at the exhibits here as to listen to the audio guide.
.‘ BasementTicket price
Visit the Museum of Marina Tsvetaeva can be for 300 rubles, for preferential categories the price will be half as much. The standard ticket allows you to walk through all the rooms independently and listen to the audio guide. It can be bought directly in the building, or on the website of the house-museum.
.From time to time author’s tours are organized. Prices for them range from 400 to 1000 rubles, and they do not include the cost of the entrance ticket. Such excursions are very interesting, they tell about specific events in the life of the poetess.
