General information

The southern point of the Laccadive Sea is Adda Atoll. Area 786 thousand km², average depth 1929 m, naib. 4131 м. Water temperature from 26-28 °С in August to 25 °С in winter. Salinity from 34 (in the center and in the north) to 35.5‰ (in the south). The central part of the sea is limited from the west by the Maldives ridge, from the north-east by the continental slope. The coastal shallow waters are lined with sand, while the deep waters are lined with calcareous mud. Numerous coral reefs. The main fishing area of India (fish, shrimp, lobsters).
