History of Krasnaya Polyana

Krasnaya Polyana

In Soviet times, there was no serious tourist attraction of Krasnaya Polyana – amateur skiing in the USSR was in its infancy. The surge of interest in the area began in the 90s with the construction of a cable car complex “Alpika-Service.”

In 2008, Krasnaya Polyana’s first resort was acquired by Gazprom, and since then it has been reconstructed, with only a luge and bobsleigh track operating next to it. But the facilities that have appeared in recent decades are ready to welcome tourists all year round.

“Gorki Gorod”

Gorki Gorod in Krasnaya Polyana is open year-round, offering winter skiing, horseback riding, yoga, eco-routes in the mountains, a rope adventure park and even a water park with a heated sandy beach. Here the sports and tourist complex “Gornaya Karusel” neighbors with hotels, spa centers, restaurants and shopping mall Gorky Gorod Mall.

.

“Gornaya Karusel” will be appreciated by late skiers who could not get away on vacation in winter: here the skiing season ends only in mid-May. Mountain bikers replace skiers in summer. Compared to Rosa Khutor, it is not so spacious here: there are 30 km of slopes and 4 elevators. The prices are comparable to what is offered by a more representative neighbor, but in some preferential directions the ski passes of “Mountain Carousel” are more attractive. The price of an adult ticket varies in the range of 1500-2450 rubles, children – 900-1750 rubles. Rental of necessary equipment is carried out with a passport and elevator ticket, athletes of any level will be offered individual and group training with instructors on alpine skiing and snowboarding.

Gazprom

Gazprom’s mountain tourist center stands out even against the background of elite resorts of Krasnaya Polyana. There are 15 pistes, 5 of which are open at night. Besides, the Psekhako Ridge in the vicinity of Gazprom has a gentle relief, so there are cross-country skiing and even dog sledding routes. In addition to slopes and cable cars, the Laura ski complex includes a five-star hotel, ski and biathlon stadiums, an Olympic Village, an artificial lake and the Galaxy Center.”

.

Ordinary mortals who can’t afford the “Grand Hotel Polyana” and access to the slopes, buy relatively inexpensive sightseeing tours to climb Mount Psekhako, wander in the fir forest, splash around in the water park and train their intellect in the centers “Kosmodrom” and “Umnikum”. The special excursion rate means that the cable car will be used without ski equipment.

Travelers vacationing in Krasnaya Polyana tend to go to the aviary complex, which is located next to the Laura skiing complex. Entrance to the aviary complex costs 300 rubles. Here wild animals of the Caucasus live in natural conditions. Tourists meet with bison, deer, raccoons, owls and other representatives of the local fauna, among which are 25 red-listed animals.

.

From Krasnaya Polyana it is worth going to the Khostinskaya Tiso-Samshitovaya Grove Reserve to enter the oldest relict forest of the pre-glacial period. Another natural attraction is the “Devil’s Gate” canyon with steep slopes 50 meters high. It is home to amazing tropical plants, also preserved since the Ice Age.

How to dress in Krasnaya Polyana resorts

Despite the proximity to the warm coast, the temperature in the resort of Krasnaya Polyana can be an unpleasant surprise for guests. The difference with Sochi is an average of 10-12 degrees, so even in summer, tourists visiting the Olympic venues out of sheer curiosity should bring light jackets. At the same time do not forget about sunglasses and hats. If you plan to spend the night in the mountains, you should “insulate” even more thoroughly.

.

Rules of behavior for guests of the Biosphere Reserve
