Island of Sint Eustatius

The island of Sint Eustatius belongs to the Windward Islands group in the Lesser Antilles archipelago. It is located in the Caribbean Sea, 60 km south of the island of St. Maarten and 27 km southeast of the island of Saba. Sint Eustatius was named by Christopher Columbus in honor of the great martyr St. Eustathius. It has an area of 21 km². Currently, the island of Sint Eustatius is a special community of the Netherlands and has extensive administrative autonomy. The only city on the island is Oranjestad, located on the southwest coast. Ecotourism is particularly popular on Sint Eustatius.
