Hong Kong’s Avenue of Stars

The Avenue of Stars in Hong Kong is the equivalent of Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, located in the Chimsacheu East district, on Waidoliyagan Quay. It was built with private funds and opened in April 2004. There are 107 stars embedded in the promenade and several bronze sculptures. The main attraction is a statue depicting actor, director, and martial arts master Bruce Lee.

History of the Alley of Stars

By the end of the last century, Hong Kong cinema had reached its heyday. It had taken a leading position in Southeast and East Asia and had become part of the national culture. Not surprisingly, a major company owned by billionaire Cheng Yutong spent HK$40 million to build an alleyway, a prototypical Hollywood landmark.

Previously, the waterfront had a more modest appearance. However, even in the XX century, tourists willingly visited it – in order to look at Hong Kong skyscrapers from the opposite bank of Victoria Bay. The best view of the “fragrant harbor” is from here.”

.

New World Development’s idea to build an “Avenue of Stars” in Hong Kong was supported by ministers and filmmakers. Seventy-three stars were laid out for the opening, and on that clear April day, all the color of the city gathered there. Nine years later, the area began to expand. By 2015, the Walk of Stars had restaurants and souvenir stores.
