Wear hiking shoes, protective clothing, a wide-brimmed sun hat, apply sunscreen, and bring drinking water.
The Bright Angel Trail, starting at Bright Angel Lodge, is considered the easiest route. Set out at dawn with the expectation that the descent will take three hours and the ascent six to seven hours. After 2.5 km, the trail winds its way to the first resting place, where an emergency phone is installed, and after another 2.5 km – to the second resting place – the so-called biblical Jacobs Ladder, and, going almost straight ahead, reaches the wonderful Indian Garden by the Garden Creek. Here, camping near the caretaker’s lodge is possible, provided you’ve made a reservation, which should be made at least six months in advance.
