Highlights

The locals are true masters at making sweets, which is why the Cypriot village is often referred to as “Loukoumia Geroskipou”. The recipe used to make loukoum has been in use for over a hundred years. The delicious treat is made from natural ingredients – sugar, fruit juice, rose petals, starch, almonds and coconut shavings. In 2004, cooks from the village of Geroskipu became world famous. They managed to prepare a loukoum weighing over 2.5 tons, and it was included in the Guinness Book of Records.

The five-domed Basilica of Paraskeva Pyatnitsa has stood here since the IX century. The Byzantine temple has long been a place of Christian pilgrimage, and the name of the village “Geroskipu” means “sacred garden”. A short walk from the church, the Folk Art Museum is housed in a 19th century stone building. It welcomes visitors from 9.00 to 17.00 in summer and from 8.30 to 16.00 in winter. The museum exhibits occupy halls decorated with traditional peasant buildings.
