Frégate Island

Frégate Island is located 55 km east of Mahé. It has an area of only 3 km². Like other Seychelles islands, Frigate was once a coconut plantation. In 1998, it was turned into a resort island. Its guests have included celebrities such as soccer players and movie stars.

General Information

Guests arrive on Frigate by helicopter from Mahe. The airstrip is located on the northeastern part of the island. Seven gorgeous beaches, electric cars, a private yacht club and 16 villas are all you need for a luxurious secluded vacation. The food is prepared with organic local produce and the restaurant is housed in a restored planter’s house.

Local naturalists offer walks for those who want to experience the island’s nature. However, the same walks can also be done on your own. The island is home to Seychelles fodus, bluebirds and rare magpies. There you can also see giant crustaceans – huge wingless beetles, as if glued from parts of other insects. The island is home to Gardiner’s geckos, the only habitat for them in the world. While walking around, you’re sure to encounter one or two giant tortoises – there are about 400 of them on the island.

This is one of three wild turtle populations in the Seychelles.

You can windsurf, sail, dive or snorkel. During dives you can see moray eels, octopus, winged fish and many reef fish. Located in the southeastern part of the island, Anse Park Beach protects a large coral reef. The northern beaches are suitable for sunbathing and leisurely relaxation. Visit Anse Victorin, Anse Macero and Anse Bamba. To the west, you can relax on Grand Anse and Petit Anse.
