Sunken Bell Tower (Bell Tower of Nikolsky Cathedral)

The Sunken Bell Tower is a historical and architectural monument on an artificial island of the Uglich Reservoir near the town of Kalyazin. The bell tower was built in 1800 at St. Nicholas Cathedral of the former St. Nicholas-Zhabensky Monastery in the style of classicism. The sunken bell tower is the main symbol of the town and attracts believers and tourists. In summer time regular prayer services are held here, and during the Verkhnevolzhsky procession at the bell tower the procession ends. In winter it is not always possible to get close to this place.
