Fedoskino village

The village of Fedoskino is widely known in Russia and abroad as the birthplace of Fedoskino lacquer miniatures. Nowadays a little more than 200 people live here. The village of Fedoskino is located in Mytishchi, on both banks of the Uchi River. More recently, the neighboring village of Danilkovo was included in its composition.

Tourists come to Fedoskino to get acquainted with the famous folk craft and to see the work of craftsmen whose hands create beautiful lacquer boxes, painted pendants and brooches. In the village of Fedoskino you can visit the museum, where the most complete collection of lacquer miniatures is presented, and attend master classes on artistic painting. In addition, the village has a museum-gallery of artist Nadezhda Strelkina “Fairytale World.”

Fedoskino is popular with fans of horseback riding. Here there are two private stables, working like closed clubs. By arrangement with the owners, you can rent a horse, have lunch, and stay overnight.

A local landmark is the wooden church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker with a tent bell tower. It was erected in 1875 by architect Alexander Nikanorovich Pomerantsev. Near this picturesque church is buried the famous architect Joseph Stepanovich Kaminsky, who built the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow.

To get acquainted with Fedoskino crafts and visit museums is enough 4-5 hours, so most travelers come to the village as part of one-day bus tours.

History of the village of Fedoskino

In the XV century Fedoskino was owned by the boyars Veliaminovs. Under them in the village appeared the first wooden church of St. Nicholas. In 1795, thanks to the merchant Peter Korobov, here began to make products from papier-mâché, and the layouts and technology were completely copied from the production of Johann Stobwasser, which was located in the German city of Braunschweig.

First, in the village of Fedoskino mastered the production of lacquer army visors. Then local craftsmen began to make cigarette cases, beads and caskets. When the owner of the factory became the son-in-law of Korobov Peter Vasilyevich Lukutin, the level of Fedoskino masters grew so much that they turned simple objects into real works of art.

At first, the artists were engaged in painting products at home, but in the second half of the XIX century on the banks of the Ucha began to work manufactory, producing lacquer miniatures. It existed until 1910, then it was closed. The remaining masters in the village of Fedoskino wanted to continue the work they had started. They united and created a small art art artel.

With the advent of the new government, artisanal production was initially oppressed, but then the Soviet state appreciated the level of professionalism of Fedoskino masters and supported them. In the 1920s lacquer miniatures became participants of two major exhibitions. Some time later, a vocational school was established here, which began to train new masters. The building of the modern factory was erected already during the Soviet years.

Museum of Fedoskino Miniature

The expositions of the Museum of Arts and Crafts are located in the building of the former manor of the Lukutin merchants, where the Korobovs-Lukutin manufactory worked since the end of the XVIII century. The old wooden house is located in the village of Danilkovo and is surrounded by a linden park.

In the halls of the museum you can see a rich collection of lacquer miniatures – copies of famous paintings and original works created by masters from the village of Fedoskino. In the souvenir shop at the museum sell caskets of all sizes, brooches and other products of local crafts. However, they are not cheap. The museum is open to visitors any day, except Monday and Tuesday, from 10.00 to 17.00.

Fairy World Museum and Gallery

The museum, which exhibits the works of artist Nadezhda Strelkina, was opened in the village of Fedoskino recently. It exhibits paintings and miniatures created by the Fedoskino craftswoman over the past two decades. It is noteworthy that Strelkina is the only Russian artist working in the fantasy style, which is widely known and recognized around the world.

Original works of the talented artist are not for sale in the gallery. They can be seen in the Museum of lacquer miniatures. The gallery presents products with printed images of paintings by N. Strelkina, and they cost from 700 to 1500 rubles.

The museum-gallery is located in Danilkovo, on Lukutinskaya Street, 30. Tourists can get here from Wednesday to Sunday, from 11.00 to 17.00.

How to get there

The village of Fedoskino is located in Mytishchi district of Moscow region, 18.5 km north of the Moscow Ring Road, on the banks of the Ucha River. It is convenient to get here by bus number 271 from the Altufievo metro station, by bus number 70 from the Katuar railway station or by bus number 42 from the Lobnya railway station. Motorists leave Moscow along the Dmitrov highway (highway A-104) and at 35 km, at Sholokhovo, turn right to Fedoskino.
