Fan Mountains

The Fan Mountains are located in Tajikistan. They stretch in the southwest of Pamir-Alai in the region of the Hissar and Zeravshan ranges, whose names translate as “Fortress” and “Giver of Gold”. This region still harbors gold-bearing mines. The Fan Mountains are bounded on the east by the Fandarya River and on the west by the Archimaidan River. In 2006, the Fans were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List due to their beautiful snow-capped peaks, including seven “5,000-meter peaks”, and unique lakes. The highest point of the district is Mount Chimtarga (5489 meters). The Fann Mountains are a Mecca for mountaineers and rock climbers who can choose routes of any complexity. Singed by Yuri Vizbor, the Fann Mountains consistently delight tourists with good weather in late summer and early fall.
