.

History of Dolzhanskaya village

The first Cossack settlers appeared on the coast in 1848, and the village began to build up from the sea. Cossacks built mazanki and wooden houses, covering their roofs with reeds that grew nearby. When a resident of the village turned 18, he entered the military service and became the owner of a land plot of 6 hectares.

.

Before the outbreak of World War I, Dolzhanskaya was inhabited by hereditary Cossacks and “horodoviks”, i.e. those who came from other places. Unlike the Cossacks, they did not receive land from the state and therefore had to rent arable land from the locals.

.

The affairs of the village were managed by the Cossack council headed by the ataman. When the Soviet authorities began to pursue a policy of collectivization, the residents of Dolzhanskaya did not want to go to collective farms. The first collective farm on Spit Dolgoi appeared only in 1929.

.

When the Great Patriotic War was going on, these lands were occupied by German troops. After the war, the local state farm continued to engage in crop production and breed pigs and sheep.

.

And in the 1980s a new page opened in the history of Dolzhanskaya. It began to develop as an Azov resort. Today there are more than 20 recreation centers built on the coast and 3 children’s health camps.

Long Spit

Dolgaya spit – an amazing corner of nature, located near the village Dolzhanskaya. A long cape running into the Azov Sea was formed from the sediments of the coquina battle. The thickness of coquina in the layer of silt on it reaches about 12 meters, and the tip of the spit consists entirely of the shells of marine mollusks. On the spit lives quite a few gulls and cormorants, which like to hunt on the cape itself.

.

Long Spit is not a peninsula with permanent boundaries. It is very dynamic, and due to strong winds, surge currents, large waves and surf, it changes its area from year to year. In the middle of the last century on the spit there was industrial mining of coquina, which was used for the construction of the Tsimlyansky reservoir, and from this the length of the peninsula has significantly reduced.

.

Long Spit has a flat relief. Small lakes can be seen in the lowlands, and along the coastline there are surf-formed ramparts that rise to a height of 1-1.5 meters. The Spit is also well known for its excellent beaches of broken coquina and sand. In the southwest, the width of the beach reaches 10-15 m, and on the opposite side it is much narrower – an average of about 5 meters.

.

The sea near Dolzhanskaya is rich in fish, so fishing is popular here. Well-cooked pikeperch and pilengas can be tasted in any village cafe.

.

Beaches of Dolzhanskaya

Dolzhanskaya is washed by the waters of the open Azov Sea and the spacious Taganrog Bay. Sand and shell strip stretches on both sides of the spit for 22 kilometers. On the shore there are a lot of beautiful shells, and all vacationers in the village take them home as nice souvenirs.

.

Almost all the beaches of Dolzhanskaya village are privately leased and belong to recreation centers. On them you can play beach soccer and volleyball, rent a jet ski, ride with water slides or parachute behind a speedboat. Pensions and recreation centers have saunas, places to play paintball and billiards, as well as tennis courts.

.

Therapeutic opportunities

On Dolgaya Spit stretches the dammed Dolzhanskoe Lake, which in the past was a liman. It is separated from the Gulf of Taganrog by a narrow spit “peresypy”, and from the Sea of Azov by a dam. In the heat of the reservoir evaporates up to 96% of the water and along the shores open reserves of black oily silt – peloid, which smells strongly of hydrogen sulfide.

.

Mud from Dolzhansky Lake is considered therapeutic and the quality is very similar to the healing peloid of Mainak and Saksky lakes located on the Crimean peninsula. Peloids consist of sulfates, carbonates and chlorides of sodium, magnesium and calcium. Thanks to these compounds, as well as hydrates of sulfuric iron and aluminum oxide, Dz должanskaya mud helps with diseases of the musculoskeletal apparatus and joints. It treats arthritis, spine ailments, bursitis, radiculitis and neuritis. In Dolzhanskaya also come those who suffer from diseases of the cardiovascular system and skin diseases.

.

Healing sludge is used for baths, applications and compresses. Mud treatment, walks along the coast, fresh air and sea bathing works wonders! And the well-being of all who vacation in Dolzhanskaya, improves.

.

Active recreation on Dolgaya Spit

Dolzhanskaya is widely known in the circle of domestic surfers. Nature has created in this part of the Azov coast excellent conditions for riding. From May to October the sea warms up strongly, and the constant winds along the spit reach an average annual speed of 6.4 m/s.
