Dam Square
Dam Square is Amsterdam’s central place where fairs, concerts and other festive events take place. It is located 750 meters from the main transportation hub of the Dutch capital – Central station. This place is shaped like a rectangle with an area of 20,000 m². The square is adjoined by Damrak Boulevard and the streets Rokin, Nieuwendijk, Kalverstraat and Damstraat. Not far from it is the famous brothel district, the De Vallen quarter.

Near the king’s residence is the Gothic building of the New Church, erected in the 15th century. The structure was built as an alternative to the Old Church, which could not accommodate all the parishioners. Since 1979 there have been no services here, but exhibitions of various artists and organ concerts are held.
The New Church is also located nearby.
The Madame Tussauds Wax Museum is also located nearby. Its visitors have the opportunity to learn about Dutch political and cultural life – there are replicas of many famous people of the state and show business stars.

It takes no more than 10 minutes to walk from Amsterdam Central Station to Dam Square. Most sightseeing tours of the city start from here.
