Château Frontenac
Château Frontenac is a fortress that has dominated Quebec since 1892 and is now converted into a fashionable hotel. Its picturesque location and Gothic Renaissance turrets, as if stepped off the pages of a magical fairy tale, make it one of the most extravagant hotels that the Canadian Pacific and Canadian National Railways built across the country as symbols of their commercial power. It’s named after Count Louis de Frontenac, a 17th-century French governor who incurred the wrath of the clergy by encouraging the sale of brandy to the natives.
