The Museum-Mansion of Fyodor Chaliapin in Moscow is the artist’s first and main own residence, where he spent the last 12 years of his life in Russia. The mansion on Novinsky Boulevard became a cozy home for the singer’s large family and a hospitable haven for Russia’s intellectual and creative elite.

General information

The House of F. I. Chaliapin preserves the charm of the pre-revolutionary era and serves as an island of stability and tranquility in the hustle and bustle of Moscow. Dedicated guides conduct fascinating excursions, penetratingly tell about the life of the artist and his family, reveal interesting facts of biography. All this is combined with a homely “Shalyapinsky” atmosphere, interior solutions of the early 20th century, antique objects and musical accompaniment – an integral part of the life of the great opera bass.

In addition to the department with a permanent exhibition, the memorial estate includes a gallery where a branch of the Russian National Museum of Music is open. The halls are used for instrument exhibitions, conferences, and author’s mini-concerts.

What to see

The exposition is represented by the singer’s personal belongings, stage outfits, antique furniture, paintings by V. Serov, K. Korovin, M. Vrubel. Before the guests leisurely opens the creative life of the figure and his loved ones.

  • In the rooms of the spouses stored family photos, wedding candles, wedding ribbons, wedding ribbons, business cards.
  • In the dining room there is a table for 30 people – the artist liked to celebrate brilliant performances. Handmade sets with symbols of the royal family have been preserved.”
  • In the “green” room placed Chaliapin’s chair, brought from Paris especially for the museum, an old gramophone and records with recordings of opera singers. Here the artist’s troupe gave performances, and his children participated in the performances.
  • The study is famous for its rich library with books by Pushkin, Turgenev, Gorky, Cervantes, Shakespeare.

  • On the second floor for demonstration are awards, original personal belongings of the famous performer: cigarettes, playing cards, posters, theater costumes of the time. A Bechstein grand piano is also exhibited here.
  • The pride of the house is the billiard room: it contains a table “V. K. Schultz”, donated by his wife, a telephone.
  • In the “dovecote” the family lived after the expropriation of the house in favor of the state.

The tour of the Chaliapin Museum lasts for 1 hour.

In the “white” hall of the estate – the concert room where Chaliapin rehearsed performances – a gallery for temporary expositions is organized. Exhibitions, concerts, children’s festivals, themed evenings with piano playing and choral singing are held here; classics and jazz are played. Domestic and foreign performers give master classes on vocal. Special events are organized for students of music schools.

The museum complex is equipped with multimedia facilities. Excursions are accompanied by an audio guide, lectures, poems, concert recordings are available for listening.

The Chaliapin Mansion is open to the public from Wednesday through Sunday. Opening hours:

The first Wednesday of the month is a sanitation day, and the museum is open until 3:00 p.m.

Ticket sales end one hour before the museum closes.

The cost of the unaccompanied tour is 300 rubles. Lecture service will cost an additional 300 rubles if there is a group. Audio guide costs 200 rubles. A cultural and musical birthday party can be celebrated for 10000 rubles.

The institution is friendly to the younger generation and provides numerous benefits. For example, for children under 16 years of age visiting is free of charge; on Thursdays there is free admission for students of Suvorov and Nakhimov schools, and on the first Saturday of the month – for students of vocational education institutions and persons under 18 years of age. At other times you can use the Pushkin card.
