Fort Castillo del Moro

Castillo del Moro is a fortress on a cliff that once guarded the entrance to the bay long ago (Castillo del Morro; daily 8.00-20.00; entrance fee). It is located 7 kilometers from the city of Santiago de Cuba. The Castillo del Morro fortress is surrounded by a moat, has strong walls with many cannons, raised bridges and passages and is in excellent condition. The guide will show the torture chamber with a trap door in the floor, through which it is said that uncooperative prisoners and rebellious slaves were thrown into the sea splashing at the foot of the cliff. Visitors to the restaurant next to the fortress, which is also called “El Morro”, can not only enjoy excellent local cuisine, but also admire breathtaking sea panoramas. The easiest way to get to the fortress is by cab. A round trip will cost about CUC$25.
