Cape Byron

Cape Byron is the easternmost point of Australia. The discoverer of this Cape was James Cook. On May 15, 1770, he first sailed past the Cape and named it Byron, in honor of the navigator John Byron, who circumnavigated the globe in 1764 -1766 on the ship HM S Dolphin. Incidentally, John Byron is the grandfather of the famous poet, Lord George Byron.

General Information

Visitors have the unique opportunity to walk the Cape Byron Track and enjoy the earliest sunrise in Australia. Then you can watch humpback whales from May to November, as well as turtles, rays, dolphins and harmless sharks in the clear water. You can then hike up to the crater of an ancient volcano for a glimpse of the Gondwanan forests and farmlands of Mount Waring National Park. At Nightkeep National Park, tourists can reach the base of the scenic Minyan Falls.

The local population of Byron Bay is about 30,000, the rest are commuters from around Australia and other countries. In the morning, on the beaches of Byron Bay can be found people who are keen on yoga, meditating in the rays of the rising sun. Numerous SPA-centers offer various mud massages and wraps, and cafes and restaurants beckon with the aromas of national cuisine. The climate here is excellent: in winter the average temperature is 22°C and in summer 27°C.

Cape Byron is located on the territory of the city of Byron Bay. It is an ideal place for lovers of active vacations. The town has several beaches that are ideal for surfing. Diving is available in many of the bays of the Bay. Most of the diving takes place near Julian Rock, which is located near the town beach.

Byron Bay is often referred to as “the beginning of paradise”. It has gained fame as a resort where young people with unconventional and somewhat frivolous views on life vacation. Cape Byron Lighthouse deserves special attention – one of the most beautiful and large lighthouses in Australia. This snow-white building was constructed of concrete blocks at the very beginning of the last century, in 1901. Its architect was Charles Harding. The view from the observation deck is simply breathtaking and offers a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean!
