Bridge of Sighs in Venice (Ponte dei Sospiri) is a small Baroque arched structure connecting the Doge’s Palace and the prison. Made of white limestone combined with light-colored marble, the bridge is decorated with fine details and carvings, distinguished by the stone openwork bars on the windows. At first sight it gives the impression of a meeting place for lovers. Today, in fact, newlyweds from all over the world come to Venice to sail under it on the vaporetto, giving each other a kiss – according to legend, such an action seals the union forever.
