Barra Grande

Barra Grande is the peninsula’s largest village on the coast of Cammamu Bay, Brazil’s third largest bay and an ideal starting point for exploring the region.

General Information

Preserving the atmosphere of a traditional village against a magnificent landscape, Barra Grande is a distinctive and exuding peace for those who want to escape from civilization. There really are no cars here, the streets are still unpaved as the locals prefer to live with the sound of the surf. Simple houses are surrounded by gorgeous gardens dominated by bright shades of purple, orange, yellow and red exotic flowers.

It is an interesting village surrounded by coconut palms and mango trees, there are many bars and restaurants where the visitor can experience the cuisine of literally all parts of the country. Of course, tourists to these places are attracted first of all by the beaches. Mangueiras Beach, the main beach in the village, is famous for its fine white sand and calm azure waters. It is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the sea.

You can snorkel or scuba dive here, as the clear waters are home to many species of fish and colorful coral.

A short walk takes you to Ponta do Muto, at the northernmost tip of the peninsula, where Tres Coqueiros beach is located. Here stands a lighthouse, built on the site of an old Portuguese fort.
