Amphitheater in Durres
The Amphitheater in Durres is a typical ancient structure, which is quite well preserved until today.It was built in the second century BC. What to see
On the territory of the amphitheater is a chapel, most likely built in the six hundred years, during the reign of Emperor Heraclius the First. Inside it is decorated with mosaics and very beautiful frescoes. The author of them is unknown, but the approximate date of manufacture has been established – 10 -11 centuries.
.In addition to the amphitheater, the Romans left other structures. Well-preserved Roman baths with halls for bathing and changing rooms. Fragments of ancient mosaics can be observed inside the premises.
How to get there
There is no airport in Durres, so you will have to get there from the Albanian capital Tirana. The airport is only 17 kilometers from the city. But you can not get to the city, and immediately take a cab to Durres. The cost of the trip is about 25-30 euros. The second option is to take one of the shuttle buses that run along the autobahn 7 kilometers from the airport.
