Alpbach Village

Alpbach is a magnificent Tyrolean village. In summer it is a wonderful place for hiking and in winter skiers and snowboarders come here. The first written mention of the village dates back to 1150, but there was undoubtedly a settlement here long before that, as the area has been inhabited for over 1000 years. Situated in a valley, the village was isolated from other areas until a road was built in 1926, with hardly anyone coming here. Thanks to their limited contact with the outside world, the locals have retained the traditional style of wooden chalets with sloping roofs and balconies, which in summer become a veritable exhibition of flowers. Now, by law, all new buildings must be built in the traditional architectural style.

The nearby Vorder-Underberg farm, built in the 17th century, was home to the owners until 1952, and is now a museum that provides an interesting insight into the traditional lifestyle of the country’s mountain farmers.
