Algonquin Provincial Park

Algonquin Provincial Park is a nature reserve in Canada, its forests, lakes and rivers are a reminder of the vast expanse that is fast becoming a thing of the past. The park covers an area of 7,725 square kilometers.

.

General Information

The park is located in the transition zone between deciduous and coniferous forests, there are maple and spruce trees, beaver ponds, lakes and cliffs covered with flowers, many plants and animals, some of them unique.

.

Originally, only locals came here to fish, hunt, and pick berries. It was not until the 19th century, when the first loggers arrived from the Ottwa Valley to the Algonquin Highlands, that the highlands began to be settled. The growing British economy needed white pine timber.

.

Algonquin Provincial Park was established in 1893 as a wildlife refuge, where the headwaters of the major rivers flowing out of the park are protected. Finally, this area of majestic beauty was “discovered” by adventurers, fishermen, and then by Tom Thomson and famous Canadian landscape artists. People come from all over the world to hear wolf howls echoing through the neighborhood and to see moose, of which there are many in the park.

.

The park does not have a staff of researchers. There are hiking trails, parking lots, and canoe rentals.
